long long week
oh em gee guys its been some kind of week. I couldn't even begin to tell you what happened except we went to the Mabi (Complex Notophyll Vine Forest type 5b) forest collected samples. and then went back and did PCQ. and did more PCQ. and more
PCQ = point center quarter method where we just pick a center point and measure the closest trees (above 5 cm) and identify them. we also measure the canopy cover and estimate leaf litter. so pretty fun except for the constant threat of scrub itch.
ah scrub itch. i haven't gotten more scrub itch from my visits to the Mabi, and the colony that was on my ankle must have died off after 3 coats of scabies cream. HOWEVER, i do have a couple little tiny wait-a-while thorns that have been stuck in my skin for days. they're too small to get out and i've given up.
but yeah, team BryoHypes has been going well. we wrote our first draft of our paper (in two days) and handed it to David. Our title was "It’s Not Easy Being Non-Vascular: Plant Community Composition of Remnant Mabi Rainforest Patches in the Atherton Tablelands, Queensland, Australia". He didn't like the first part of our title, not sure why. its short, snappy, and grabs the readers attention.
the last two days has been a battle over which movie we watch for movie night - Tron Legacy or Bottoms. Team Bottoms fought hard and valiently and eventually won when Ian (Team Tron) switched his vote to Bottoms so they could have their own Tron movie night. Not quite how I wished Team Bottoms could have won but...now I get to watch Bottoms.
Today we went to the cindercone that the Wildlife Conservation Biology professor is attempting to reforest. We've been working on it all semester, going over in groups chopping weeds mostly and today we planted saplings. I was NOT excited for it, but it was kinda fun in a big group and we got done pretty fast.
AFTER we went swimming (tbh god bless because I was so dirty and sweaty) at this cute lake that had a teahouse. The lake that EVERYONE ELSE went to except my FEX group and group 6 because we had to go out that day collecting GIS data points. and THEN we had to shove the van out of the mud. Whatever, im not still mad about it.
David bought everyone scones that came with jam and cream and they were yumm. Allegedly there were saltwater crocodiles in the water, but if you haven't swam in croc infested waters have you really lived???
